Carol Akiyama is a Consultant for all aspects of the entertainment industry, including, but not limited to, development, packaging, financing, production and distribution of theatrical motion-pictures, television-programming and multimedia/interactive product. As such, she is a founding partner (with Peter Bierstedt) of Bierstedt, Akiyama & Associates. She is also Of Counsel to The Donovan Offices and Of Counsel to Garvin & Benjamin.
She is also a Writer and Producer of a diverse slate of theatrical and television motion-picture projects. Additionally, she functions as a managing-partner of The Digital Estate, which is actively developing, producing and distributing product for newly-emerging multimedia/interactive markets.
From 1982 to 1988, Ms. Akiyama was the Senior Vice President and second-ranked executive of the Alliance Of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP). The AMPTP represents all of the major television and theatrical motion-picture studios and production-companies in the entertainment industry, as well as ancillary entities, such as the major film-processing laboratories and payrolling-companies.
Previously, she held various legal posts in the labor and entertainment areas, including the CBS and ABC Broadcasting Networks, Southern California Edison and the National Labor Relations Board.
Ms. Akiyama earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from the University of Southern California, graduating Magna Cum Laude, with honors in Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Kappa Phi. Thereafter, she earned a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Southern California Law School.
From 1981 to 1982, she served as Chair of the Labor Law Section of the Los Angeles County Bar Association. From 1975 to 1985, she also served as a Member of the Executive Committee for such Labor Law Section.
Ms. Akiyama has authored numerous academic-articles on entertainment-related subjects and lectured extensively thereon, before many academic-institutions and organizations, including the UCLA Graduate School of Management, the Beverly Hills Bar Association and Los Angeles County Bar Association. Additionally, she was a guest-speaker at the 34th Annual USC Entertainment Law Institute, for which she prepared a comprehensive paper, published in conjunction therewith. In 1992, she was a semester-instructor for Second-year Masters-graduate students in the Peter Stark Motion Picture Producing Program, at USCs School of Cinema-Television.
Ms. Akiyama is listed in Who's Who in America, Whos Who in Entertainment, Whos Who in the West, Whos Who of American Women, Whos Who of Emerging Leaders in America and Whos Who in the World. She has been awarded the highest accolade in Martindale-Hubbell: an AV? rating.
